What is the best way to prepare for a job interview?
OK, long story short - I applied for a position just to see if I would get anywhere (position is higher than I am now in another company) and I have been selected for interview which is tomorrow at 10.00am.

It has been YEARS since I had an interview and I remember hating them. Not because of nerves but general anxiety about how I am answering. I either rush an answer and then when I have finished regret what I have said or I go off on one and speak for too long.

All I have done is a quick one hour read about the company which I am bound to forget if asked and of course can wangle answers to questions such as strengths and weaknesses, what can you bring to the company, why do you want to work here etc

I have also prepapred questions I would like to ask at the end of the interview - is it good practice or acceptable to have a notepad and papers on table to refer to rather than off the top of your head?

Suit is outm shirt is ironed and travel planned so that is all OK but being someone who has not been interviewed for YEARS I am wondering if there is anything else I should prepare for.

I guess it is normal to be nervous about interviews but I am more used to INTERVIEWING than the other way around.

I really want this job, it is an ambition of mine to flip burgers (-: ... in all seriousness though is there much else I can do? Can you over think it and prepare too much?

Cheers cunts - let the abuse begin!

Why are manholes round?

cup of tea 2:02 Thu Feb 15
Re: What is the best way to prepare for a job interview?
A round manhole cover cannot fall through its circular opening, whereas a square manhole cover could fall in if it were inserted diagonally in the hole. Circular covers don't need to be rotated or precisely aligned when placing them on the opening. A round manhole cover is easily moved and rolled.

Have been told that other than obviously knowing what the fuck you're on about, a lot of companies also want to know if you'll fit well into the team already there ie make sure you're not a complete cunt.

Interview's can be luck of the draw with who is interviewing you, as if they're a complete arsehole, you're back is up instantly which makes you sweat and have a mare, where as if you're lucky like I was with two women who were proper nice (and still are 4 years later), it's not nervy and you can steam through it as I did.

Two people interviewing me, one is a Director (woman) and the other one a senior manager (bloke) - apart from that don't know much else, I suppose a HR rep will also be present?

Drink 6 pints of Stella, then intimidate the interviewer, by threating to rape his family!!! Always works!!!

Also it takes less metal to make a circular manhole cover than it does to make a square one

I read somewhere that female Directors like to have their tits complimented in an interview.

I am hoping the female has a low cut top on so if I lose my way in the interview I can at least stare at her tits and then have a wank in the bog after I am finished

Re: What is the best way to prepare for a job interview?
Apologies, serious answer but interviewing myself at the moment.

Main thing is just to relax and be yourself as that's the person they'll potentially be working with so will want to see. As long as you're vaguely qualified for the role, personality fit is key.

Review the job spec and think of some elements of your experience that are examples you can use for relevant answers. Do have a think about standard questions like what are you looking for in your next role? An example when you've encountered an tricky situation and how you dealt with it. etc. Also don't be negative about old employers etc

Personally i wouldn't have pen and paper and your list of questions out. If you don't ask all your questions, you can ask them at round two..

Good Luck!

Go in there and if they see you are a bit desperate for the position you're probably fucked.

Go in there and act as if you couldn't give a shit about it but be polite and tell them all the bollocks they want to hear and you will get it. Unless a bird with bit tits is being interviewed and gave as good an interview as you, in this scenario, well, you're definitely fucked.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Preparation is key.

Re: What is the best way to prepare for a job interview?
My honest advice is to relax. Sounds simple, but I never worry about interviews because the worst that can happen is I'd be declined for a role.

The other thing to consider is whether the role fits you, and after speaking in the interview, you'll get an idea whether the culture and people are right for you.

Good luck.
